Reiki treatments

How does Reiki work?

Our hectic lifestlyes, together with environmental pollution, stress, eating/drinking toxic substances, and exposure to negativity, can all create energy blockages which can result in emotional and therefore, physical ailments. It is widely believed that diseases are partly manifestations of energy imbalances within our bodies. Reiki helps to rebalance your own energy which works to clear these blockages and get you firing on all cylinders again.

How is a Reiki Treatment carried out?

Before your Reiki treatment commences, I will take a brief lifestyle and medical history from you. This will inform me of your current health and whether you are taking any medication. It will also tell me why you have come for treatment. Please remember that all the information you give is held in the strictest confidence.

After the consultation, you will be asked to remove your shoes and be invited to lie down, fully clothed, on a comfortable treatment couch, where you will also be covered with a blanket. If you find lying down for prolonged periods difficult, I am more than happy to treat you sitting in a chair. I will invite you to close your eyes and begin to relax into the experience. There will be soothing music playing softly in the background and the room will be softly lit, to enhance the experience. It is best to wear limited jewellery and comfortable clothing.

I will first connect to your individual energy and once the Reiki energy is flowing through my hands, I will begin to place my hands over the key energy points on your body. Sometimes this requires a light touch, other times my hands remain just above your body. Reiki treatments are non-intrusive, therefore you will feel comfortable at all times throughout the treatment. At each energy point, my hands will remain still for a few minutes and you may feel heat or cold sensations, which is very calming and soothing. You may feel simply relaxed, or maybe very emotional. This can be a remarkable experience for some.

At the end of the treatment, you will be offered some water and we can discuss your experience of receiving Reiki. I am always interested to hear how the experience was for each person.

What might I feel or experience during a Reiki Treatment?

The experience will vary enormously from person to person but deep relaxation is usually felt by all. Most people feel warmth coming from the practitioner’s hands, although on some occasions, the energy may also feel cold. Other people may feel fewer sensations and that’s OK too. Reiki will work whether or not you are physically aware of the energy transfer. Whilst receiving the treatment, emotions may be gently released, as the energy loosens blockages that may have been present. Negative memories and experiences in need of gentle healing may also surface.

Reiki calms the mind and provides clarity of thought, and sometimes answers to problems one may currently be facing suddenly come to light, therefore making the situation easier to deal with. Whatever happens during your treatment, it will always be a gentle and rejuvenating experience.  Take  the opportunity to lie back and totally relax in a safe and caring environment and ENJOY!

How long does a Reiki Treatment last?

Your initial visit will usually take 1½ hours, as it includes an initial interview to assess how best to treat you. I will ask about your lifestyle, any current medications being taken and will take a medical history. Generally, subsequent treatments take an hour to carry out.

How many treatments might I need?

There are no hard and fast answers to this one. Everyone heals at the right time for them and therefore it varies enormously from person to person. As a general rule, chronic long term problems do take longer to heal, although in some instances, recovery can be very quick. Ultimately, it is up to you how many treatments you would like to receive, although I am happy to advise you when we meet. Lots of people have a few treatments to begin with and then visit periodically to maintain a feeling of balance within the mind and body.
